Las Vegas is a service town, and a huge share of the people making your trip great are working for tips. A little fluency here goes a long way — and keeps things smooth.
The quick reference
- Cocktail server: $1–$2 per drink, even when the drink is comped.
- Bartender: $1–$2 per drink, or 15–20% on a tab.
- Housekeeping: $3–$5 per night, left daily.
- Bellhop: $2–$3 per bag.
- Valet: a few dollars when they bring your car.
- Rideshare/taxi: 10–15%.
- Restaurant: 18–20%, same as anywhere — and check whether a service charge is already added.
Two things to remember
First, cash still moves faster than anything else in this city — keep small bills on you. Second, that “free” drink on the casino floor isn’t really free; the tip is the price, and it’s a good deal.
You don’t need to overthink it. Be generous with the people taking care of you, keep ones and fives handy, and Vegas tends to take care of you right back.
