Downtown Vegas Is Having a Moment

For years, downtown Las Vegas was the place you visited once for the Fremont Street lights and then left. Not anymore. The old core of the city is in the middle of a genuine renaissance, and it’s become one of our favorite parts of any trip.

What changed

A wave of new hotels, restored classics, independent bars, and a walkable arts district turned downtown from a nostalgia stop into a destination. It’s denser than the Strip, cheaper, and far more surprising — you can wander three blocks and hit a speakeasy, a vintage arcade, a taco window, and a rooftop pool.

How to spend a night down there

  • Start on Fremont Street for the neon and the canopy light show.
  • Drift into the Fremont East district for the better bars and live music.
  • Explore the Arts District — galleries, breweries, and murals, especially on first Fridays.
  • End late. Downtown’s energy peaks well after midnight.

Why we love it

The Strip is a spectacle. Downtown feels like a neighborhood — one that happens to be lit up like a pinball machine. If you’ve only ever done the Strip, this is the trip that’ll change how you see Vegas.
