Packing for Las Vegas trips up a lot of first-timers, and we get why. This is a desert city where you can bake in the sun outside and shiver in over-cooled restaurants an hour later. The trick is planning for both.
Comfortable Shoes Come First
The Strip looks compact, but the distances between resorts are deceptive. We routinely rack up serious mileage just getting from one hotel to another. Bring shoes you have already broken in. Save the brand-new heels for a cab ride to dinner, not a marathon across casino floors.
Dress for Two Climates
Layers are your friend. During the warm months, pack light, breathable clothing for the daytime heat, then add a light jacket or wrap for aggressively air-conditioned interiors. In winter, pack a real jacket, because desert nights get cold.
Sun Protection Is Not Optional
- Sunscreen, and more than you think you need.
- Sunglasses and a hat for pool days.
- A refillable water bottle – the dry air dehydrates you fast.
A Few Things People Forget
Throw in a phone charger or portable battery, since long days out drain your phone quickly. If you plan on nicer dinners or shows, check whether there is a dress code and pack one smart outfit. Finally, leave a little room in your bag – Vegas has a way of sending you home with more than you arrived with.
